15 Jan Rand Paul Takes a Step in the Digital Direction
Rand Paul may have scored the biggest PR victory of last night’s Republican Debate by simply not being there. Relegated to the “kiddie table,” as some call it, or the second stage, Paul chose to take his message to the “second screen.” In an unprecedented move Rand Paul called for debate viewers to join him in a Twitter town hall during the debate, vowing, “I’ll take my message directly to the people.” Was Paul’s move an effective strategy?
The announcement alone caused Paul to trend on Facebook, and he also scored the second largest follower growth of any candidate (Donald Trump was first). Also a success for Paul, #RandRally was the fourth highest trending hashtag in the United States last night. His presence was also felt in the debate hall, as the crowd at one point began chanting, “We want Rand.”
